YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD
ABOUT THE AWARD
The Young Investigator Award (YIA) Program supports early career investigators interested in pursuing a long-term career in research and academic medicine with a focus on enhancing the health and well-being of patients through regenerative orthopedic medicine. The YIA Program seeks to support a diverse cohort of early career investigators - in both lived experience and academic institution. The YIA Program provides young scientific investigators of promise with an opportunity to showcase their cutting-edge research.
ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS
The YIA Competition is open to any physician or scientist who is presently in a residency, fellowship, or doctoral training program or who has been in such a program within the past three years (at the time of submission). The competition also is also open to students in graduate or medical schools who are working on a problem concerned with regenerative orthopedic medicine in the areas of clinical and basic research. The nominee must be the submitting, presenting, and first author of the manuscript considered for consideration.
Nominee and Nominator both must be members of the AAOM in good standing at time of application, selection, and award distribution.
EVALUATION CRITERIA

Goals are defined and appropriate. Objectives, such as a testable hypothesis, novel design, new technology, specific problem to be solved or critical barrier to be addressed, are well-defined and appropriate.
The research proposed is likely to add significantly to the current relevant literature with a stated plan to disseminate the results and contribute to the generation of future research.
Provides a clear explanation of appropriate methods and are appropriate for testing the study hypothesis. They are sound and workable within the one-year time frame including sufficient collaborative support when needed. There is adequate recognition and discussion of the limitations.
Provides clear evidence the Principal Investigator can efficiently evaluate the data with proper statistical measures.
Purpose of the project is clearly stated in relation to past and future career interests of the applicant and will assist in future career development
NATURE OF AWARD
As a result of being recognized as the winner of a Young Investigator Award, the winner will have the opportunity to present from the podium during AAOM’s Annual Scientific Meeting the year the award is granted. Winners should make travel plans accordingly.
Winners will also receive by mail following the Annual Scientific Conference, a certificate of award suitable for framing. Recognition will be provided by AAOM in the form of a newsletter article, and on social media as available.
