LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The AAOM Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest award that AAOM can bestow on one of its members. The achievements and contributions by the individual within and on behalf of the field of regenerative orthopedic medicine must truly be outstanding and significant. This award is not typically made for a one-time achievement or effort, but for work over a sustained period of time for the AAOM and the professions associated with the field of regenerative orthopedic medicine in important capacities, and contributing significantly to AAOM's success in meeting its goals.

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS

Nominees must a physician who has graduated from an accredited US Osteopathic or Medical College or University and who is either legally licensed to practice medicine and surgery or retired from practicing, who has graduated from an ACGME accredited residency and /or fellowship program.

Nominee and Nominator both must be members of the AAOM in good standing at time of application, selection, and award distribution.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Nominees will be evaluated based on contributions in the following areas:

Instruction: Participation and development in instruction on regenerative orthopedic medicine, including, but not limited to, effectiveness in undergraduate, postbaccalaureate, professional and graduate instruction; curriculum development and innovation; accomplishments of former students; special student educational projects; honors and awards for excellence in teaching and invited lectureships; and assessment of national educational involvement including active participation in AAOM meetings, committees, teachers seminars, national and international workshops. Among the most important qualities are inspiration, leadership, and quality of contributions and the impact on educational programs and professional growth of individuals;

Advancement: Working for the advancement of the profession of interventional regenerative orthopedic medicine, can be documented in terms of the following examples but not limited to: contributing to the development of the IROM Standards, transforming the delivery of care, serving at the forefront of technology and/or innovation, advancing interprofessional education, significant contributions in administration education that lead to improved patient outcomes and or improvements in medical education, creating new knowledge such as a regenerative orthopedic medicine discovery that enhances physician therapy for improved patient outcomes, or developing new care delivery models that improve patient outcomes, or developing patient interventions that improve outcomes, and modeled excellence of medicine;

Leadership/Service to AAOM: Sustained service/leadership to with American Academy/Association of Orthopedic Medicine (consideration should be given to the breadth of service to AAOM, elected and all other forms of volunteer service).

Leadership/Service on behalf of AAOM: Sustained contributions externally on behalf of regenerative orthopedic medicine, outside of AAOM and one's own institution, such as but not limited to active involvement in other health-related organizations through elected office, committee participation, and contributions to program development.

NOMINATION PROCEDURE

The Committee screens nominations and selects a finalist based on the information received in the application, which should include, but not be limited to:

  1. Cover letter from the nominator summarizing the nominee’s qualifications and commitment to the Association;

  2. Résumé (CV) detailing education, appointments, activities, memberships, awards and honors, and other relevant data;

  3. Reflection on contributions to instruction;

  4. Reflection on contributions to the advancement of the profession of pharmacy;

  5. Reflection on contributions to leadership/service to Association, local, state and/or national pharmacy organizations and other health-related organizations;

  6. Reflection on evidence of research and creative scholarship activities; and

  7. An additional two to four letters of support with reflections on the nominee’s contributions including those endorsements from individuals outside of the nominee’s home institution (supporting letters should interpret the impact that the nominee has had on his/her field and pharmacy education and provide evidence of contributions to instruction, to the advancement of the profession of pharmacy, leadership/service, and evidence of research and creative scholarship activities).

NATURE OF AWARD

As a result of being recognized as the winner of a Lifetime Achievement Award, the winner will have the opportunity to present from the podium during AAOM’s Annual Scientific Meeting the year the award is granted. Winners should make travel plans accordingly.

Winners will also receive at the Annual Scientific Conference a physical award in recognition of their accomplishment. Recognition will be provided by AAOM in the form of a newsletter article, and on social media as available.

DISCLOSURE REQUIRED

AAOM’s Board of Directors has adopted a policy affirming AAOM’s right to grant, defer or decline to grant an honor or award, including a leadership position, to any person. AAOM expects all recipients of honors and awards to embody the highest standards of professional and personal ethical behavior, therefore, AAOM will not confer any honor, award or leadership position when, in its discretion, there has been a determination or credible question of unethical behavior. 

To implement this policy, AAOM is instituting a disclosure process for nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Award. The required disclosure form must be completed, signed and submitted prior to the award announcement at the AAOM annual membership meeting.
