EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD
ABOUT THE AWARD
As an education-focused organization, the AAOM Excellence in Teaching Award is designed to recognize outstanding teaching or academic work in the field of regenerative orthopedic medicine. The award is designed to provide national recognition to an AAOM member-educator for excellence in outstanding classroom performance, dedication to deliver high-level programming for AAOM, and/or participation as a lecturer and/or instructor during AAOM workshops, seminars, online education, and during the annual AAOM Scientific Conference.
ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS
The Excellence in Teaching Award is presented to a member who consistently:
Communicates a thorough knowledge of and enthusiasm for the relevant field or subject
Presents that knowledge coherently and connects it with other allied fields or subjects
Challenges students and increases their capacity for independent thought
Transforms, enhances, or innovates teaching methodology and practice.
Recipients must have demonstrated excellent or exceptional teaching of regenerative orthopedic medicine over a sustained period of time, and nominations should document that record.
Nominees must be teaching in the academic year in which they are nominated.
Members may receive this award only once.
Nominee and Nominator both must be members of the AAOM in good standing at time of application, selection, and award distribution.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
The committee screens nominations and selects a finalist based on the information received in the application, which could include, but is not limited to, the following:
A current curriculum vitae
A statement articulating the nominee’s teaching philosophy and methods used to achieve educational goals. This statement may include contributions the nominee has made to the intellectual environment in the field of regenerative orthopedic medicine and any special or innovative methods they employ.
Copies of syllabi and other relevant course materials from three courses the nominee has taught and samples of materials from other teaching and learning activities
A summary of student ratings of courses and other educational experiences that have been evaluated in the previous two years
Copies of any peer teaching observations
Names of two or three colleagues and up to five former students of the nominee from whom the selection committee may request evaluations.
NATURE OF AWARD
As a result of being recognized as the winner of an Excellence in Teaching Award, the winner will have the opportunity to present from the podium during AAOM’s Annual Scientific Meeting the year the award is granted. Winners should make travel plans accordingly.
Winners will also receive at the Annual Scientific Conference a certificate of award suitable for framing. Recognition will be provided by AAOM in the form of a newsletter article, and on social media as available.
