Dr. Jim Carlson was a pioneer a head of his time. He was an ardent practitioner of regenerative medicine from his days in
osteopathic medical school where he combined mechanics/OMT/with prolotherapy to achieve healing. He began his
non-surgical/sports medicine practice in Knoxville, Tennessee in the early 1970's ,when only a handful of practitioners around
the nation were performing prolotherapy. He practiced for 35 years in Knoxville. With his physical therapy/ athletic training background-
coupled with his osteopathic training, Dr. Carlson had a unique ability to combine anatomy, hormonal, manual medicine, and
prolotherapy to heal his patients who would often travel from around the world to get treated.
In the early 1980's he helped co-found the AAOM along with Drs. Goodley, Pomeroy, et. al.. Their goal was to form an
organization that for the first time focused on treating and healing orthopedic injuries non-surgically as opposed to the traditional
post operative care. He served as President of American Association of Orthopaedic Medicine and would continue to spend
decades teaching prolotherapy techniques to physicians along with osteopathic principles through the AAOM as well as other
organizations. His passion for anatomy was infectious!
His education started at University of Nebraska where he earned his B.S. degree. He graduated from Hermann Hospital Texas School
of Physical Therapy and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was a
Fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sclerotherapy. He was a member of the American Academy of Osteopathy and the
American Academy of Sports Medicine. He served in the U.S. Army.
In his spare time - he loved to go bass fishing and enjoyed outdoor activities. He has 4 children and 8 grandchildren.
