|
|
The Athlete and Orthopaedic Medicine
The Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island, FL - April 28 - May 1, 2010
Dear Colleague:

The AAOM's 2010 Annual Conference will convene in Amelia Island, Florida.
The host hotel, The Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island is a place where magnificent live oaks and
Southern charm meet Florida's warm ocean waves and white sand beaches. Just 20 miles from
Jacksonville, located on a grand stretch of the island’s 13 miles of coastline, the Ritz
Carlton, Amelia Island hotel will provide AAOM Conference attendees with an unforgettable
escape.
The AAOM 2010 Annual Conference is being held on April 28 – May 1,
2010. The conference; titled "The Athlete and Orthopaedic Medicine" will be
highlighted by several nationally and internationally renowned orthopaedic medicine
authorities speaking on a variety of different topics. Unique to this meeting will be
the presentation of Orthopaedic Medicine treatments for athletes, athletic injuries and
recovery. The conference is designed with didactic sessions followed by hands–on
diagnosis and treatment sessions, harking back to the early days of the AAOM and why this
method of teaching and learning was so effective.
On Wednesday, we will again be offering a full day of
pre–conference workshops. Two seven–hour workshops will begin at 8:00
am, "Diagnostic Ultrasound of the Shoulder, Elbow & Knee: Introductory
Hands–on Course" and "Nutrition and Hormones for Healing Sports
Injuries–. On Wednesday evening, we will offer two 3–hour workshops;
"Topographic Anatomy for Needle Placement" and "Hands on Diagnosis".
The Thursday, Friday and Saturday General Sessions and Workshops will cover topics on
Injection Therapies including, Prolotherapy, PRP, Mesotherapy with an emphasis on the
"athlete" patient. As part of each day, we will introduce Adjunctive Therapies;
such as hormone replacement, supplements, and nutrition and explore their impact on the
healing process. The General Sessions and Workshops will also include lectures and
demonstrations on the use of radiography and ultrasound as both diagnostic and guidance
tools; we will look at and demonstrate most of the current alternative solutions for
prolotherapy as well.
There are many reasons why the novice, as well as the experienced
practitioner will not want to miss this conference. The 2010 Conference is shaping up to
be exceptionally informative and valuable. Come and enjoy the 27th AAOM Annual Conference
in sunny Florida. I look forward to seeing you there!

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The 27th AAOM Annual Conference will provide both lectures and
practical instruction workshops on the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of
orthopaedic medicine concerns. There will be anatomical reviews, discussion of research,
RIT lectures/workshops, discussion and workshops on platelet rich plasma just to name
a few.
NEEDS ASSESSMENT
The treatment of chronic pain is a complex and multifaceted problem.
The faculty of this conference offer the participants detailed instruction in the use
of prolotherapy and orthopaedic medicine to treat the laxity of ligaments that often
cause chronic myo fascial pain. Due to an aging population, more active lifestyles and
patient desire for the relief of chronic pain, orthopaedic medicine techniques
including prolotherapy provide effective and safe treatments.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Course Goal: Participants will receive a comprehensive review of
anatomy, pathology, and pathophysiology of common sports injuries. Participants will
learn treatment and rehabilitative methods including injection therapies, OMT,
Orthopaedic Medicine and nutritional and hormonal therapies to treat common sports
injuries. |
|
|
At the end of the course, participants will
be able to:
- Perform, Evaluate and Interpret Diagnostic Ultrasound for Upper Extremity and
Shoulder and Knee Injuries.
- Explain various hormonal disturbances interfering with proper healing.
- Describe various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for correcting
hormonal disturbances.
- Perform hands on diagnosis to determine sources of chronic non–malignant
pain.
- Assess several injection techniques and solutions for treating chronic
pain.
- Perform some examination and evaluation methodologies for knee, hip, shoulder, and
foot and ankle.
- Propose how various rehabilitation strategies can be integrated into various
treatment protocols to enhance proper healing and affect chronic pain
conditions.
- Perform some OMT and hands-on manipulative techniques to treat sports
injuries.
- Propose how injection therapies can be integrated into treatment protocols to
enhance proper healing and affect chronic pain conditions.
- Determine appropriate use of diagnostic ultrasound to aid injection needle
placement for several situations.
- Determine appropriate use of MRI for evaluation and diagnosis for knee, hip
and shoulder pathology.
- Determine appropriate injection needle placement for several situations.
- Perform several hands–on diagnostic techniques.
