25th AAOM ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Understanding Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

Clearwater Hilton Resort, Clearwater, FL - April 30 - May 3, 2008

Dear Colleague:

This year the AAOM will host its Silver Anniversary Conference, April 30 to May 3, 2008 at the Clearwater Hilton in Clearwater, Florida. The conference will be highlighted by several nationally and internationally renowned orthopaedic medicine authorities speaking on a variety of different topics. We are introducing a more expanded Pre-Conference day, Wednesday, April 30 allowing you to attend either, or both a 7-hour Workshop session and or a 3-hour evening Workshop.

A majority of chronic musculoskeletal pain is caused by connective tissue pathology. Significant histopaththologic and pathophysiologic discoveries in tendons have led to new approaches in diagnosis and treatment of enthesopathies and tendinosis. Many physicians have successfully implemented them into their practice. Come and learn how to implement these novelties into your practice and improve your patients' outcomes.

Felix S. Linetsky, M.D.
2008 AAOM Conference Program Chairman

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The AAOM silver anniversary conference will provide both lectures and practical instruction workshops on the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of orthopaedic medicine concerns. There will be anatomical reviews, discussion of research, RIT lectures/workshops, discussion of platelet rich plasma just to name a few.

OBJECTIVES

Orthopaedic Medicine is that branch of medicine that deals with injuries or conditions of the musculoskeletal system. These injuries or conditions involve ligaments, tendons, muscles or capsular tissues and commonly occur in athletics, repetitive motion syndromes, motor vehicle accidents, industrial accidents and other accidents. Determining proper non-surgical treatment of those injuries or conditions involves a knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology. Various treatment measures are available to the Orthopaedic Medicine specialist to treat such injuries or conditions including RIT (prolotherapy), manipulation techniques, physical modalities, exercise, nutrition, hormonal replacement, interventional injection techniques, acupuncture and neural therapy. This seminar was designed to provide information that will assist anyone practicing Orthopaedic Medicine.

This seminar is intended to teach you:
  • Anatomy and pathophysiology of common pain problems arising from the musculoskeletal system

  • Physiology of chronic pain

  • Basic and advanced RIT injection techniques

  • Bio-identical hormone replacement parameters

  • Exercise techniques for pain conditions

  • Basic fluoroscopic and ultrasound guidance

  • Platelet rich plasma injection techniques

  • Selected interventional injection techniques

  • Nutritional concepts

  • Mesotherapy

TARGET AUDIENCE

The course was designed for those physicians who treat those with pain and injuries of the musculoskeletal system regardless of the part of the body affected. The target audience are PM&R specialists (physiatrists), Family Practitioners, Interventional Pain Physicians, Pain Management Specialists, Orthopedists and Other Health Professionals that deal with injuries, overuse syndromes, metabolic syndromes and chronic pain conditions.
